I just went on my very first gluten-free shopping trip. It was quite a bit more expensive than my usual grocery shopping trips, but I came away with myriad gluten-free products, and PLENTY of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients. I have to admit that I didn't know where to start, or what to stock up on, but thanks to 5dollardinners.com and their gluten free meal planning calendar and shopping list, I had a great idea of where to start. I also took the suggestions of some friends and went to Whole Foods. They make it so much easier to find the gluten-free options. Not only do they have an entire GF section, but they also have purple labels throughout the store to denote which foods contain no gluten. Plus, when I went to check out, the cashier noticed my many GF products, and gave me a lot of advice, including foods that he has found that he likes better than others. He even went as far as to get me a list of all the products that Whole Foods has that are gluten-free. Overall, I felt like it was a very successful trip.
